Thailand blog

Koh Lipe was stunning! Cristal clear waters as still as a bath, our Island life had begun.
There where not any real roads on the island and the chilled out vibe reminded me of Koh Phi Phi before all the mass tourism took over. Our hotel had only been opened for a few days and was a bargain, we had booked for 3 nights but ended up staying for 2 weeks. For £20 it was a stones throw away from the beach and a minute away from walking street, where all the bars and restaurants were. It was a very lazy two weeks sunbathing and eating and was hard to drag ourselves off the island.
Amazing

Our transport off the Island

We stopped over for a few nights in Krabi but it wasn’t really our cup of tea. As it was the run up to my 30th Matt had found a hotel that had just opened and was offering very cheap rooms on the Island of Phuket. When we arrived at the hotel they upgraded us for free to our oven private pool room, we could not believe our luck! the room was amazing and we enjoyed our two week stay here very much. We hired a car a few times to explore the island which was a little scary at first but Matt soon got the hang of driving with the locals.

We flew up to chaing mai and I was surprised how nice the town was. We only had a few days to cram in as much as possible. There are over 300 hundred temples in the town, so we spent a full day walking around taking in the different temples the city had to offer. There was one temple where they had several monks sitting in glass boxes, they didn’t move! they where like status as they where in such a meditated state they didn’t even blink!
Our hotel was situated in the night bizarre district, every night the streets would come alive with hundreds of market stools sealing everything you can imagine.

On my birthday we got picked up at 10am and went to a top spa where we had 3 hours of treatments, all over body scrub, all over massage, facial, foot massage, it was pure bliss. From there we went to Tiger kingdom where we went into a enclosure that had the largest tigers in. it was defiantly an experience I wont be forgetting in a while. That evening we had a fantastic meal, which was the end to a perfect day.

The next day we took a day trip, which lasted 13 hours. We drove to a hot springs that was so hot you could boil eggs in the water, from there we headed to the famous white temple which is without doubt the best temple I have seen, it was simply beautiful. We drove right up to the golden triangle where the mighty Mekong river meets Burma, Laos and Thailand. We also went to meet the Kayan people in their village, where the ladies of the tribe have long necks as they have put on bras coils around their necks from an early age of 5 years old. Each coil is replaced with a longer coil as the grow up and the weight of the coil pushes down on the collar bone and compresses the rib cadge making there necks long. I tried a very short 10 ring coil on when I was there and could hardly breath, some of these ladies have almost 30 rings on their necks.

Another day in Chaing mai we went to an all day cooking school, we started off in a local market where we learnt about all the local fruit and veg, back at the cooking class we picked out 6 dishes each a soup, appetiser, stir fry, curry past, curry and a desert. Everything we cooked was delicious and I cant wait to give it a try when I get home.
Our time in Chiang mai was jam packed but we had the best time, we have booked on an overnight mini bus to Loas which I am not looking forward to but hey that’s travelling I guess.
