Malaysia Blog

Arriving in Kuala Lumpur (capital of Malaysia) we checked into a very nice hotel in the area of Bukit Bingtang. The area was great, close to shopping malls and food markets and there was even a Debenhams close by. I was incredibly thirsty when we first got to the room so I took myself off downstairs to lobby to buy a drink, after I got back to the room Matt asked me how much I had paid…when I told him he said to my horror I had just spent £5 on a can of Pepsi, moral of the story always know your currency or don’t let Holly loose with the money!
One day we took the city’s hop on hop off bus, which was a great way to explore the capital jumping off at Chinatown, a large craft market and the famous Petroner towers and even though the shopping there is redicusaly expensive it was great just to mooch around. I had my first fish spa pedicure and manicure, though I am sure the fish are five times the size to those I have seen back home! 20 minutes for £2 bargain.

We spent another full day waking around the shopping mall in Times Square, with an impressive 10 levels and even a theme park inside. I purchased a few items (all fake) Cath Kidston purse and Chanel and Rayban sunglasses costing only a few quid! We did enjoy our time in Kuala Lumpur and the food was delicious and cheap but I think Singapore just had the edge on the better city.

It was time to move on and head to the west coast of Malaysia, after a 4 hour bus and 40min boat we where on the Island of Pangkor. The Island itself is only 8 square kilometers and use to be home to pirates. We checked into a simple guesthouse close to centre. We hired some bikes to explore the island, the first 30 minutes was all going great just had to negotiate my way through the crazy moped drivers. They said it would get a little hilly…A LITTLE!!! At 100% humidity and 35 degrees I was struggling up these mountains! It was a fun day out but next time I will check out these so called little hills before hiring the bike. The next 5 days we checked into a lovely little hotel on the coast of the island using the swimming pool and eating the local cusine, it was very relaxing.

We took a taxi, boat, bus, boat and taxi, hop skip and jump we had moved to the island of Penang, which is a huge island with a population of 750, 000. We checked into a hotel in the capital George Town before heading down the coast. We went on an all day tour of the Island visiting a spice world, fishing market, butterfly farm, chocolate factory and a handcraft factory it was a great way to see the island.

Buta Ferringhi was the beach we headed to on the island we stayed in a hostel called lazy boys, the guys that ran the hotels had all traveled the world, it had a very chilled out feel to the place. It was the smallest room we had stayed in so far, a cold shower over the toilet was a little strange but was very comical listening to Matt taking a cold shower.  It was the Indian Davali so there where lots of party’s and fireworks going off all the time….even as late as 3 am which got a tad annoying.
3 hour ferry ride to our next Island Langkawi, we stayed in the lively beach Chiang. There where lots of restaurants and bars to choose from. I had my first cup of English tea and lobster dinner.  It was a bonus that the whole island was duty free!
It was getting hotter and hotter by the day. We where walking around the shops when Matt spotted a happy hour, so we sat and had a few drink ( a few shandy’s for me) and I stared to feel very strange and the next thing I knew matt was holding me up and I had passed out…very scary, I will be drinking my water from now on.
With our ferry tickets booked next stop Thailand and the beautiful island of Koh Lipe.
