After a killer flight of 13 hours with no sleep we arrived in Singapore. We had a hostel already booked purely for the ease of arriving so early in the morning and presumption we would be shattered. Unfortunately we could not check in for another 5 hours, which annoyed me due to being so sleep deprived. So we hit the streets walking around aimlessly. It was so clean in the city and everyone was dressed to impress (I felt very scruffy) it was nothing that I had pictured. We decided we didn’t want to stay in the hostel, we didn’t get a great vibe from the place, and so we ended up in a little hotel just outside the city in the area of Geylang. Matt was desperate for a McDonald’s so we walked 50 minutes to get one in the 95% humidity and 31 degrees heat. After a well needed sleep we headed to a food market to try the local cuisine that evening, pork noodle soup, Vietnamese spring rolls, a black carrot cake which was neither a cake or had carrots but was nice all the same, we were not brave enough to try any pigs brains or head.
The next day we took the local tube (MRT) that ran like clock work and knocked socks of our tube system. We were heading for Singapore’s Universal studios, which yes did eat up our daily budget but was well worth the splurge. After a full day of rides we where shattered and enjoyed getting back to our AC room. The next day we did a little site seeing, back on the MRT we headed to the harbour front and mooched around the shopping mall there…not that we could afford anything, even the Marks and Spenser’s there was triple the price of back home.

I think the people of Singapore are controlled by Iphones….everyone seems to have one glued to their hands, they even get signal on the tube!. There was still quite a bit we wanted to see and do in Singapore but as we are back here next April we thought we should save some activities until then.
